As promised here are...

"6 Ways to Keep Your Carpets Dirty During the Winter"
Here are some tips for keeping your carpet as dirty and
grimy as possible over this winter from hell.

The main reason carpets show signs of premature wear is because
they are not maintained properly. If major traffic lanes were
vacuumed regularly and spots or spills were cleaned properly,
carpeting would look better and last longer. Keep in mind that the
house cannot really look clean without clean carpets.

1. DO NOT USE A DOOR MAT at all of your entrances.

2. DO NOT USE THROW RUGS. Even though it is recommended that area
rugs are used in traffic areas, removed once per week(at least)
washed and put back.
This will prevent your carpet from getting dirty. These rugs can be
easily removed when you are expecting guests. White cotton rugs are
great for heavy traffic areas like the transition
between the kitchen and dining room. Just beware that this will
keep your carpet cleaner.

3. DO NOT VACUUM REGULARLY. Vacuuming keeps loose dirt
and sand from the base of your carpet. So NOT vacuuming will cut
your carpet fibers and give your carpets
 a look of pre-mature wear.

4. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR FURNACE FILTERS at least once or twice this
winter. This will make sure that dust or air particulates
accumulate and result in black filtration lines under closed doors
or at the edges of the room or stairs.

5. DO NOT TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF. This will insure that your family
and guests will essentially wipe their feet off on your carpet and
the hard soles will grind the dirt in nicely.

6. DO NOT CLEAN YOUR KITCHEN FLOORS. Grease and oil from cooking
will track onto carpeted areas. This soiling is a bigger cause of
dirty carpets than outside dirt.

Following all of these steps will insure your carpet stays dirty
this winter. If you want to KEEP YOUR CARPETS AND RUGS CLEAN THIS
WINTER. Do the opposite of the above 6 steps.

P.S. We have been "swamped" with flooded homes from the
extreme cold this winter. Give us a shout if you have a water loss,
flooded house, broken water pipes etc.
